Devotion

The giving of oneself to the idea of perfection.

Oil & acrylic on canvas; 81x91 cm

No matter the religion, offerings are made at altars to holy beings, not for recognition, nor for exchanges, not even for the assertion that such entities exist or not, but in submitting oneself to the idea of greatness/ perfection.

Sacred geometry is the study of spiritual meaning in various spatial arrangements. Symmetry offers a balance that resonates with humankind because of our bilateral physiology. We find a sense of balance, beauty, calmness in symmetrical compositions.

Jacqueline Shiu uses Chinese classical, Tibetan Thangka, & French art nouveau motifs in her paintings to illustrate the truth, the good, and the beautiful. Geometric proportions & symmetry express dignity, righteousness, and order; organic lines & shapes embody the complexity and depth of human emotions; detail & intricacy reflect human dedication and perseverance; and flowers are symbolic of grace and perfection.
